The maximum G-force of the ride is 3.7 Gs, expectantly low for a twisted impulse coaster. The NUMBER ONE* place on the internet for roller coaster and amusement park discussion, news and updates! Valleyfair's Steel Venom is currently the only Intamin impulse coaster in the United States still operating with its holding brake. This holding brake is no longer operational. During the ride's initial years, the holding brake at the top of the vertical rear spike would engage on the final launch, locking the train in place for a very brief moment. The train then falls and is launched backwards up the vertical spike. After the initial launch, the train heads up the twisted vertical spike that twists the train 180 degrees. The original ride began with riders being launched forward by the use of linear induction motors. The coaster's layout consists of two vertical spikes, one twisted and the other straight vertical with a holding brake, connected by a launch and station tract to form a basic "U" layout. Possessed was closed for the entire 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cedar Fair turned the incident into a marketing opportunity, which focused on a story that the ride was overtaken by evil spirits, fitting in line with the ride's original theme. Instead of challenging, Cedar Fair opted to appease Six Flags and rename the coaster. In 2009, the name was changed to Possessed after Six Flags expressed concerns over the name Voodoo, which it had recently trademarked for another ride. Prior to opening at Dorney Park, it was repainted to its current color scheme, as shown in the picture above, the supports were repainted teal and the track was repainted yellow. Steel Venom was relocated to Dorney Park, where it reopened as Voodoo several weeks into the 2008 season on May 17, 2008. Many rides at the park were relocated to other parks in the Cedar Fair chain. At the end of the 2007 season, Cedar Fair announced the amusement park section of the park would close and the park would operate exclusively as Wildwater Kingdom. The coaster was dismantled after the 2006 season and put into storage. Even though Cedar Fair removed any mentions of Superman from the ride, the original blue, red, and yellow color scheme remained intact. In the process, the coaster was renamed Steel Venom, while receiving a new logo with a black background featuring a silver and purple snake. Following Cedar Fair's acquisition of the park in 2004, in which the original Geauga Lake name was reinstituted to the park, all Looney Tunes and DC Comics branding owned by Six Flags was removed. It was based on the DC Comics character Superman. The ride opened on at Six Flags Ohio as Superman: Ultimate Escape. History Geauga Lake era (2000–2006) Possessed when it was known as Superman: Ultimate Escape at Six Flags Ohio/Six Flags Worlds of Adventure during the early 2000s. A larger version called Wicked Twister was located at Cedar Point until its closure in September 2021. The model is identical to five other impulse coaster installations at other amusement parks. It reopened in 2008 briefly under the name Voodoo, and was renamed Possessed for the 2009 season. The ride closed in 2006 and was moved to Dorney Park. After Cedar Fair purchased the park and renamed it back to Geauga Lake in early 2004, the coaster was immediately renamed Steel Venom. Manufactured by Intamin and designed by Werner Stengel, the roller coaster originally debuted at Six Flags Ohio amusement park as Superman: Ultimate Escape on May 5, 2000. Possessed is an Inverted Impulse launched roller coaster located at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Take your time here, try and get the shape as close as possible to the new forks. Use an angle grinder to cut the shape of the new forks out of the crown. Use a marker to draw the shape of the new forks on the fork crown. Using a bit of cardboard as a template, draw a semi circle around your new fork tubes. Try and get the base at flat as possible. Next step: Build the forks Cut the legs off the forks. Each tube has a drop-out on one end and a threaded nut at the other end. To recap - at this stage we have two tubes. Here's where the time taken to make a straight edge pays off! When your happy that all is well, weld it securely. Luckily, I was able to use another wheel which fitted better, but take heed of this mistake! Pic 7. I only discovered this later during a test ride when a wheel's spokes were rubbing against the inner side of the fork tubes. IMPORTANT: I made a mistake when I welded my dropouts - I placed them right in the centre of the tube - I should have moved them closer to one edge. I used a magnetic mount to hold the drop-out to the fork. (Pic 6) Next, we need to weld the drop-outs to the forks. Keep trying to fit the wheel axle into the slots until they just fit. Your aim here is to cut a slot just big enough for the wheel's axle to fit snugly. Take your time here - don't cut too much of you'll risk the wheel popping out. Clamp the two pieces together and cut out the slots for the wheel axle. This way, you can be sure that when you use an angle grinder to cut the slots, both slots will be identical. Remember, the straighter the surface, the better the join will be. Pic 4 Use the grinder to make the edges neat. I aligned the drop-outs in a clamp and used the grinder to get their edges identical. Angle grinding is never exact, so the drop-outs were not exactly the same. Use an angle grinder to cut out two pieces from the steel to form the drop-outs. This will give an indication of the size and shape of the piece to cut out. Overlay one of the existing fork's drop-outs onto the steel to be cut. I used some scrap steel plate, about 3mm thick. There's no way of attaching them to a wheel, so we need to make some drop-outs. Above all, enjoy building and don't give up! Read on for instructions on how I did it, and the mistakes I made along the way. *Access to a pipe bender - you may need this if your angles change significantly and you don't want to cut the extension tubes at an angle. *New chains - if you're extending the frame significantly, the chain length will also increase. I had some 1.4mm thick sheet steel which is perfect for the plates I made. Butt welding tubes of the same diameter is more difficult and will not be as strong unless your an expert welder (and I'm not!). The diameter of this tubing should be either slightly smaller than the existing frame tubing (to fit inside the cut tubes) or slightly bigger (to fit over the tubing). *Steel tubing to extend the frame after chopping. These need to be quite heavy gauge as the forces involved will tend to bend the tubes. *Welder (I used a gasless MIG welder - a Clarke 105EN) *Steel tube(s) for the forks. I took a 25 year old Raleigh Wisp ladies racing bike and converted it to something a bit out of the ordinary. I've recycled as many parts as possible, and used scrap materials when I could. The main inspiration for this came from AtomicZombie and Koolkat's instructables. This is an instructable on how to build a chopper bike on a budget. The only thing that you will get by plugging your 30 amp plug into a 50-amp outlet is the ability to charge your 30-amp system from it. Some people think that if they will plug in their 30 amp system into a 50 amp outlet (via adapter), they will actually get more power. Most RVs use 30 amp or 50 amp plugs and if the proper amount of power is supplied, they can get the most out of their outlet. If you are planning to plug your RV into a standard 15-amp or 20-amp outlet, you will get only this amount of power to use: Recommended wiring usage for your RV receptacle goes as follows: ** Don’t forget that working with electrical panels is DANGEROUS, so before you start working, make sure your main power supply is OFF! The wires needed In the dual-breaker, both breakers are bridged in order for them to trip simultaneously. You will need to install a double (or dual) pole 50 amp 120/240-volt breaker where 240-volt service will be split into 2 HOT feeds. Not all electricians are familiar with wiring specifically RV outlets and could wire your outlet for 240-volt service, so make sure your TEST the outlet before using it. ** Alert! Tell your electrician that you will be using this outlet for your RV and the load may be unbalanced. ** Warning! If you are not 100% sure of what you are doing, DON’T DO IT! Call a licensed electrician for assistance. Here is a good video to help you out with installation: Very often people place their plugs next to the main breaker box. EACH hot wire will give you 50 amps 120 volts (or 6,000 watts):Īnd since two hot wires are there (each giving 6000 watts), it means that in total you will get 12,000 watts of power: What could be a better way, than hooking up your RV directly into your house’s electrical system to charge your batteries and get ready for another road trip?!ĥ0 amp receptacle gets connected to 4 wires in total with two of them being 120-volt hot wires, one neutral, and one ground. You can set up your 50-amp receptacle on a pedestal like in a campground, or put one on the side of your house or garage (whichever wall will be closer to where your RV is parked).Ĭoming home from a long trip only to get rolling again would require some restocking and that includes recharging your power systems. Wiring a 50-amp plug is not complicated because everything is pretty much straightforward and all you will need is a new 50 amp breaker, RV outlet (NEMA 14-50R), electrical conduit, and a wire (6/3 gauge is recommended with 8 gauge being a minimum). Please Read the full Rules here before posting or commenting I did the “update” from the dialog box that opened when I first opened the layout file. The pages in the layout file got screwed up – the “cover page” first page is correct, but the next several pages are the “new” scenes from the sktechup file, not the ones that they are supposed to be from the layout file – after the new scenes, the remaining ones seem to be correct. I created a few additional scenes in the sketchup file, opened the layout file and “updated” the sketchup file in the window that opened to indicate that it was out of date. I have uploaded the latest layout file to dropbox which has a slightly different problem. Was busy for the last few days – I fly hot air balloons and do ride flights so we have had a few recently! The problem generally appears after I “Update” the model reference in Layout when it says the model is out of date. I’ll see if I can replicate the problem using copies of the current model and layout files and then upload another copy of the layout file afterwards. Could you elaborate on this for me? Also I was unaware that you could reverse engineer the Sketchup model from a layout file? I thought that Layout was somewhat more independent of the Sketchup model. “layers” became “tags” in the 2021 version. I am not sure by what you mean about “all edges and faces should be untagged”? I had some confusion shifting between the older version of Sketchup and 2021 version – ie. Yes I hadn’t purged the model – should have done that – my bad. Model might be front, right, left, back views and Layout pages are front, back, left, right views as an example. I am wondering if the problem might be that the order of the pages and viewports in Layout may not mirror the order of the scenes in the Sketchup model exactly – ie. When things went bad I simply deleted the viewport and dimensions for that page and recreated it from scratch by reimporting the scene from the model and redoing the dimensions. Camera position or parallel vs perspective view) in the model. With regards to scene 9 I may have dragged the viewport on that one hoping to fix the positioning of the dimensions – but generally I have been careful not to alter the viewport from the time I imported the scene from the Sketchup model nor to alter the “scene” (ie. The scenes that would change would be for example the Rear Elevation (west side) would be replaced by the North Elevation – as an example. Just wondering what I am doing that causes this problem - it has made for a great deal of extra work to reload the correct scene and then in some cases have to redo the dimensions for that page.Īny assistance would be greatly appreciated - I’m hoping it is just some step that I am missing in the process. scene on page one is swapped with scene on page three or example - but not all scenes are necessarily affected Ħ) additionally sometimes the dimensions on the layout page get changed as well to irrelevant settings. The following is how I proceeded:ġ) created Sketchup model and created the Parallel Projection “scenes” in Sketchup.Ģ) created several “pages” in layout and loaded the different scenes to the viewport layer of the relevant pages ģ) added dimensions on the dimension layer for each of the layout pages Ĥ) a change had to be made to one “scene” which was done in Sketchup - and the reference to the model in layout was" updated" ĥ) This last action caused the scenes on the layout pages to be randomly swapped amongst themselves so that the dimensions were no longer relevant. Whoever first programmed that was having a seriously ‘off’ day.I am having a problem with layout swapping scenes if the sketchup model is updated and updated in layout. 620.5, 300.2, or where the decimal separator is a comma, and the delimiter is semicolon then type 620,5 300,2.īe aware that in all but the latest one or two versions of SU, using Imperial/US Customary units when the model units are metric will give you inconsistent and often WRONG conversions. Īnd if you are using measurements with a decimal point, in regions where the decimal separator is full stop (or period, in US English), and the delimiter is comma, just type it as normal - e.g. If you are using the semicolon as a separator, type instead of. Or if you wanted to keep the 300 dimension, and change the 600 to (say) 500 just type 500. Don’t click in the Measurement box first, just type. So for example if you use comma as a separator, and have set a dimension of (say) 600,300 and now want to change it to 600, 400, just type ,400 before you change to another tool. And if you want to keep one dimension the same, but leave the other as it is, just leave the persistent dimension out of what you typed. Technically, Typhoons were able to deploy their long-range nuclear missiles while moored at their docks. Their primary weapons system was composed of 20 R-39 ballistic missiles with a maximum of 10 MIRV nuclear warheads each. Most individual Soviet and Russian submarines are designated K for Kreyserskaya or Cruiser (B for Bol’shaya or Large if diesel or old), but only the Typhoons received the special designation of TK for Tyazholaya Kreyserskaya or Heavy Cruiser.īesides their missile armament, the Typhoon class featured six torpedo tubes designed to handle RPK-2 missiles or Type 53 torpedoes.Ī Typhoon-class submarine could stay submerged for 120 days in normal conditions, and potentially more if deemed necessary (e.g., in the case of a nuclear war). The source of the NATO reporting name remains unclear, although it is often claimed to be related to the use of the word “typhoon” (“тайфун”) by General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev of the Communist Party in a 1974 speech while describing a new type of nuclear ballistic missile submarine, as a reaction to the United States Navy’s new Ohio-class submarine. With a submerged displacement of 48,000 tonnes, the Typhoons are the largest submarines ever built, able to accommodate comfortable living facilities for the crew of 160 when submerged for months on end. This fiscal strain, in turn, had ripple effects on the broader Soviet economy, contributing to the economic challenges that played a part in the eventual dissolution of the USSR. The immense costs associated with designing, building, and maintaining these titanic vessels strained the nation’s resources. Moreover, the Typhoon-class submarines exerted significant economic pressures on the Soviet Union. Their immense size and advanced missile systems marked a notable milestone in the development of Soviet naval power.Ĭonsequently, they ushered in a new era of maritime influence and reinforced the USSR’s position as a formidable maritime force on the global stage. These colossal Typhoon-class submarines not only represented technological marvels but also embodied a strategic shift in naval warfare during the Cold War era. The Typhoon-class ballistic missile submarines stand as emblematic symbols of Cold War military might, leaving an indelible mark that few submarines of their era could match.Īs the largest submarines ever constructed, the Typhoons played a pivotal role in significantly enhancing the capabilities of Soviet submarines during the early 1980s.īeyond their sheer size and firepower, these formidable vessels carried profound economic and political ramifications for the Soviet Union.
